Our expertly trained lead audiologist has studied under some of the best and brightest in his field, and he is qualified to diagnose and treat not just hearing loss, but other problems related to the ear and hearing system, such as tinnitus and balance issues. We'll help you reclaim your hearing, address your balance, and reconnect with the people and things you love in life.

Read below for descriptions on a few of the services we provide to the residents of Kankakee, Steger, and beyond.

Hearing Testing
We offer a range of hearing tests. First, we examine your ear with an otoscope for any visually evident problems. We also use an audiometer to check how well you hear different frequencies. We also conduct a middle ear assessment, an inner ear assessment, and a word assessment for all our patients. Word assessments let us determine not just how well you hear but also how well you process what you can hear.
Hearing Aid Fitting
If we conclude that your hearing loss could be well treated by hearing aids, we will help recommend the best hearing aid style and technology to suit your hearing loss and your lifestyle. We carry a wide assortment of sample hearing aids so you can get a sense for what hearing aids would be like in our office during your appointment.
Tinnitus Rehabilitation
Tinnitus, also known as "ringing in the ears," is a common problem that can be caused by damage to the inner ear. In some cases, tinnitus can be effectively treated with hearing aids, or it may simply go away if the hearing loss itself is treated. In other cases, we may be able to help minimize the impact tinnitus has on your life with therapy and rehabilitative exercises.
Balance Testing
Balance is related to the inner ear and the hearing system. If you have recently fallen or have noticed that you feel dizziness (vertigo), let us know and we can conduct a series of tests on your balance. These tests will let us determine what the cause of your balance issues are and what treatment plan will work best for you. We can partner with other medical professionals to help coordinate your treatment options.
Cerumen (Ear Wax) Management
Some hearing loss is caused by a simple blockage within the ear. In those cases, we can clean out your ear and restore your hearing. We can work with you to develop a treatment plan to manage the accumulation of cerumen and prevent your hearing from being blocked in the future.
Noise Protection
Prevention is one of the best ways to fight hearing loss. We offer custom-fit earplugs and hearing protection for individuals who spend time in high-noise environments, whether they work in industrial or construction jobs or perform live music.

Balance Testing

Your sense of balance is important in all areas of your life. Losing that sense of balance can be debilitating, especially if it puts you at risk for falling, and it can interfere with your ability to continue doing the things you love. Hearing Rehabilitation Center offers more than just hearing services; we can help you understand your vertigo and find solutions to help you get back to living your life.

If your doctor has recommended that you have an examination and evaluation of your balance, we have the expertise to conduct those evaluations and the personal approach to make sure you feel comfortable and supported throughout the whole process. You aren't alone with your vertigo, dizziness, or balance issues — we understand how hard these experiences can be, and we are here to help.

What Causes Vertigo and Balance Issues?

There are many potential causes, but among the most common are problems with your inner ear, which is responsible for your sense of balance. Sometimes infections, head injuries or certain medications can lead to vertigo.

What Can I Expect From Balance Testing?

Before you come for your appointment, there may be certain requirements, such as dietary restrictions or discontinuing medication the night before. We will let you know these requirements in advance and answer any questions you may have about the process. The most important part of testing is that you feel comfortable, knowledgeable, and included in your own care.

First, we will listen to you carefully as you explain your history, which will help us develop a hypothesis about what the problem may be. We use that hypothesis to determine which tests to give you; the exact tests will depend on what we think has caused your vertigo or balance issues. For many patients, we may test your ocular mobility (eye movement) in different positions and situations. The results let us know whether we need to refer to you a neurologist, physical therapist, or other specialist, or if we can help you in-house.
